CATSKILL, N.Y. – Greene County legislators Wednesday night adopted a 2013 county budget that will increase the property tax levy by 2.7 percent, which is within a state-mandated property tax cap.
The adopted budget calls for $100,502,115 in overall spending, an increase of $1,187,434, or 1.2 percent, over the current budget of $99,314,681.
The budget was adopted by a vote of 12-1, with Legislator Christian Pfister, D-Athens, voting against the plan. Legislator Keith Valentine, R-Catskill, was absent.
The proposal calls for $20,845,353 to be raised through property taxes, an increase of $550,746, or 2.7 percent, from the current levy of $20,294,607.
Under the state’s property tax cap legislation, Greene County could have increased its tax levy by as much as 3.75 percent.
The budget maintains current county staffing levels.
